Olympics, Falling is an interactive Data Installation, depicting the impact of the Rio 2016 olympics on the locals.
Olympics, Falling is an ironic light show, commenting on the glamour of the fireworks show during the opening.
Built by a team of 10, I worked as the leader and lead designer (for concept and construction) on building an interactive data installation displaying the human rights consequences of the 2016 Rio Olympics behind the glamour of the event. The design was composed of custom architectural designs of data points and the city, built by stacking 1000+ laser-cut plexiglass pieces.
Data were critically processed to generate new understandings, enabling a wide-scale and depiction. The data were depicted spatially on a 3 layer scale model of the city, where 3D models of community spaces travel vertically between layers using motors. The installation was installed with LEDs with colour animation to create an emotional expression. The team supplemented the work with footage and interviews on screens present on all four sides of the installation based on the dataset the viewer has selected.
